The Office of the President of Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski reported on Wednesday that Pendarovski will hand over the mandate for formation of the new government to SDSM leader Zoran Zaev on Thursday. From Pendarovski’s Office they report that Zaev notified the President of Macedonia of the negotiations the alliance “We Can” headed by SDSM and BESA is conducting with other parliamentary parties for securing the necessary parliamentary majority for formation of the new government. This information prompted several web portals to report of an alleged agreement for parliamentary majority between SDSM and DUI, but that information was quickly rebuffed by DUI Spokesperson Artan Grubi. “We are indeed conducting negotiations, but so far we have not reached agreement for formation of the parliamentary majority,” Grubi said for web portal A1ON. In meantime, prompted by the decision of President Pendarovski, outgoing Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi scheduled the continuation of the constitutive session of the Parliament of Macedonia for Thursday 13 August at 03:00 p.m., saying that he was informed from the media that Pendarovski intends to hand over the government formation mandate to Zaev on Thursday. PS Xhaferi interrupted the constitutive session on 4 August right after the mandates of all new 120 MPs were verified, thus postponing the appointment of a new PS in his place.
