PM Zaev to visit Rome at end of October

On 29 October, PM Zoran Zaev will visit Rome for a meeting with Italian counterpart Guiseppe Conte, following Italy’s announcements that it will demand for the issue of enlargement to be re-opened in November. In an interview with 360°, he confirms that he will visit Rome upon an invitation from Conte and that enlargement should be a topic at the General Affairs Council on 19 November. However, the PM adds that he’s no longer that optimistic. Regarding French President Emmanuel Macron’s stand that some candidate countries should be offered strategic partnership instead, the PM says that full-fledged EU membership is Macedonia’s only alternative.
