Pope Francis: Macedonia Gateway for Christianity in Europe

The Sovereign of Vatican City State and Head of the Catholic Church Pope Francis held a press conference on Tuesday aboard the airplane that took him back to Rome, in which he reflected his visit to Macedonia. “Macedonia was the gateway introducing Christianity in Europe, because inhabitants on Macedonian soil were the first Europeans the sermons of Jesus Christ had been conveyed to by Paul the Apostle. The Macedonian people have a rich cultural and historical tradition, which established their statehood only recently. I am very glad upon learning that the country has been nourishing deep respect for all religions and respect amongst the members of different religious communities,” Pope Francis said on his way from Skopje to Rome.
