President Stevo Pendarovski, after consultations with legal experts, on Monday signed the Decree for approval of the Law on Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in the Republic of Macedonia, 2021. President Pendarovski expects the census process not to be politicized, and the data obtained to be useful for the overall development of the country, which will enable the formulation of long-term strategies in vital areas. The law will enter into force after it is published in the Official Gazette, while the parties continued with mutual accusations about the implementation of the largest statistical operation in the country. The opposition VMRO-DPMNE reiterated the view that the Census Law is the result of a political agreement in the government coalition, so the party claims that it is reduced to a political and not a statistical operation. SDSM claims that the census will be conducted according to all international standards, and the opposition party was accused of politization of the census for its own party purposes.
