The proposal for constitutional changes has entered Parliament. Speaker Talat Xhaferi said on Wednesday it had been submitted to MPs. The plenary session has been scheduled for 18 August. Previously, it will be considered by the Committee on Constitutional Issues on 25 July. The debate lasts up to 10 working days.
According to Xhaferi, if there is political will, the process can be completed by November. The opposition, however, hasn’t changed its stand. According to VMRO-DPMNE leader Xhaferi the Government submitted a text that is unreasonable and endangers the country’s positions on the EU path. According to the EU Delegation’s Head, David Geer, who welcomed the Government’s adoption of the text, it’s very important for there to be a public debate on the constitutional changes.
In Bulgaria, the country’s President, Rumen Radev, said the constitutional changes were a very important step. However, he added that they were not the last one because the meeting requirements from the two signed protocols from the negotiating framework was needed.
