Radev: Bulgaria Expects Constitutional Guarantees from North Macedonia

Bulgaria actively works and supports the European perspective of its neighbours from the Western Balkans as the safest measure for security, stability, and economic progress of the region, the country’s President, Rumen Radev, said at a working meeting with the Ambassadors of the EU and of Switzerland. As he added, that’s why his country expects to achieve concrete results in the field of economy and connectivity, as well as over the open bilateral issues in the dialogue with Skopje. According to Radev, though the intensification of the dialogue with North Macedonia, by upgrading what’s been achieved so far, is a positive sign, Bulgaria doesn’t except new guarantees, but rather constitutional guarantees for respect for the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia, by adding them to the Preamble of North Macedonia’s Constitution. Radev considers that that should be done before a start of membership negotiations.
