Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani is convinced that Macedonia being part of the EU is a strategic interest of Bulgaria. He is adamant that all differences will be overcome through intensive communication and continued work of the Joint Commission. “We have a strategy. Believe us: We know what we are doing, we have red lines of defending national and state interests from which we do not deviate,” he says. The Minister is optimistic that a start of membership negotiations will not be compromised. Germany considers that bilateral problems shouldn’t be part of the negotiating framework. In an interview with Radio Free Europe, the country’s Ambassador, Anke Holstein, says not blocking the process is in a substantial interest of Bulgaria. PM Zoran Zaev points out that claims and statements containing insults don’t lead towards friendship.
