Reactions to Government’s Campaign “We are Europe”

Commenting on the Government’s campaign “We are Europe”, which will cost around 80,000 euros, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said on Thursday “these political con artists” didn’t have a right to cite Europe because they are an embarrassment to Europe.

Socialist Party of Macedonia, too, levelled criticism, saying it was a repeat of the “big lie told five years ago”. On the other hand, PM Dimitar Kovacevski said the campaign’s goal was to inform about the process. As he added, opinion polls show that 80% of citizens want to be part of the EU.

Some experts, however, believe that the campaign is meaningless because citizens are not against the EU, but rather against the conditions being imposed to join the organisation. They add that public discussions on the EU, not political tribunes where party members and Government officials participate, are needed.
