Realization of Agreement Between Zaev and Mickoski Starts at Parliament

The MPs started implementing the agreement reached on Monday between Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and the President of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski. Legal changes are being submitted, and during the day the Draft Law on Postponement of the Census is expected to be put into procedure. At the 59th session, the Government determined the text of the Draft-Law on Amending the Law on Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in Macedonia in 2021. The Draft-Law was submitted to Parliament with amendments and supplements that postpone the census for September 2021. One of the proposed changes is to continue the process of self-enumeration of citizens from the diaspora until the end of the census in September. Alliance for Albanians and Alternative do not agree with the postponement of the census that was agreed at the meeting between the leaders of SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE. The leaders of both parties, Zijadin Sela and Afrim Gashi, have announced that they will use all mechanisms, primarily the Badinter principle, to block the postponement of the census until autumn. Gashi believes the delay is to the detriment of Albanians in the country.
