Referendum Initiative Sparks New SDSM-VMRO-DPMNE Accusations

SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE have traded accusations over the referendum issue. “Instead of constructiveness, VMRO-DPMNE and Hristijan Mickoski, by demanding elections, by requesting a referendum, are trying to obstruct the normal functioning of institutions at the expense of the domestic economy, at the expense of citizens,” Bogdanka Kuzeska, Spokesperson for the ruling party, noted. In response, VMRO-DPMNE said that SDSM’s theses that the people supported the party and agreed with the Treaty with Sofia were a lie. According to the opposition party, the fact that the government is not interested in so-called triple elections, that is, for the referendum and early parliamentary and presidential elections to be held simultaneously proves that it is afraid of being defeated. “According to conducted researches, over 60% of Macedonians would vote in a referendum, which the government knows too,” the opposition party stressed.
