The EU still has a goal to start negotiations by the end of the year even though the issue with Bulgaria over the negotiating framework for the Macedonia is still acceptable. On Tuesday, EU Enlargement Commissioner said both countries should find a mutually acceptable resolution. He added that there was work together with authorities in both Skopje and Sofia. “The Foreign Minister and Deputy PM were together with me last week, and I encouraged them directly to get engaged, to work with their neighbours because that is common interest, finding a solution acceptable to both sides,” the Commissioner pointed out. Varhelyi presented the 2020 Enlargement Package, including also the Report on Macedonia, before the European Parliament’s European Affairs Committee. As he said, Skopje delivered measurable and sustainable results on the reform path towards the EU and set them as key areas in June 2018.
