Request for debate to Revoke MP Veljanoski’s immunity Arrives in Parliament

The request from the Criminal Court to schedule a debate to revoke MP Trajko Veljanoski’s immunity arrived in Parliament on Thursday. Starting from Friday, MPs will debate at a Committee session whether the former PS needs to be stripped of the immunity that’s currently protecting him against a detention measure. The same day, VMRO-DPMNE condemned the decision to arrest Veljanoski and former ministers Mile Janakieski and Spiro Ristovski. “This is a political confrontation in the period leading up to the presidential elections,” the opposition party said. It froze its participation in the Jean Monnet process and added it wouldn’t support the reform laws as long as the Public Prosecutor wasn’t elected upon a nomination from the opposition. In response, SDSM urged Hristijan Mickoski’s party to put state interests above party ones and to vote in favour of the systemic laws. “We, too, are in favour of a Public Prosecutor nominated by the opposition, but not now,” the ruling party added.
