Samaras: Getting rid of Prespa Agreement is Political matter

The former Greek PM Andonis Samaras said during a congress of the Greek ruling party New Democracy that the possibility for Greece to get rid of the Prespa Agreement without facing consequences is a political matter. “This is an agreement that is going nowhere, and we are aware that we cannot eliminate or change it overnight, but also it is not something we can upgrade or edit without facing consequences. What we can and should do now is strengthen the positions of Greece and use all the weaknesses of the Prespa Agreement in our favour. We recognised the name, identity and language of Skopje from the very start, and in return Skopje is to make certain changes too but only after their unobstructed integration in NATO and EU, and this is something that is not dependent on us only; A while ago France, Netherlands and Denmark obstructed the start of membership talks with Skopje. We must preserve the Greek characteristic of Macedonia and giving up on that is not an option,” Samaras said. This was followed by a reaction from former Greek PM and SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, who demanded official position on these statements by the current Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
