SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE Once Again Present Unchanged Stands on Elections

SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE remain divided over the issue of elections. The former is adamant that Macedonia’s Constitution and laws require elections in June, with 21 June being the option it considers most suitable, whereas the latter is of the opinion that the process should take place at the end of the summer. However, both sides hope they will reach a deal in the next 7-10 days. SDSM said on Tuesday that June had been supported by all participants in the leaders’ meeting held the previous day except Hristijan Mickoski. According to VMRO-DPMNE, the constitutional deadline of 60 days for early elections expired on 16 April. As the party added, the SEC cannot resume electoral activities before the end of the state of emergency.
