State Statistical Office (SSO) Director Apostol Simovski believes that the Macedonian citizens living abroad conduct, as he said, “quiet boycott” of the Population census. “The low response we get from our citizens living in Australia, Canada and the US may be due to the anti-census campaigns conducted by the opposition in our country, while on the other hand great numbers of citizens from European countries, particularly Switzerland, are very much responsive to the Population census. I still encourage all citizens living abroad to take part in this operation, because it is in the interest of all of us for this operation to succeed and provide credible information about the population in our country,” Simovski said, adding that so far 77,122 Macedonian citizens from diaspora responded to the Population census.
