In a mutual press conference, the Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski and the Director of the newly formed Operational-Technical Agency (OTA) Zoran Angelovski announced the official start of functioning of the new agency. OTA is to replace the Bureau for Security and Counter-intelligence (UBK), which was revealed to be a subject of great corruption and abuse of power in the past years. “I am happy that today, along with Angelovski, we can tell you that we started the implementation of the newly adopted Law on Following of Counter-intelligence and the Law on OTA,” Spasovski said. OTA Director Angelovski said that the agency shall work in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations. “There is neither theoretic nor practical possibility for abuse of the systems of OTA anymore. I can assure you that there is no longer illegal wire-tapping of communications in Macedonia. This agency received the support of a 2/3 majority in the Parliament, and by extension by a majority of the citizens of Macedonia,” Angelovski underlined.
