Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi has refuted the opposition’s accusations that he violated the Rules of Procedure by postponing the vote on the need for constitutional changes, after the list of speakers at the 18 th August list of speakers had been exhausted.
As he explained on Monday, the session was convened for 18 August on the basis of Chapter V of the Rules of Procedure, which prescribes the steps concerning a session’s course.
On the other hand, VMRO-DPMNE called on the Speaker to immediately convene a session for a vote on the constitutional changes. Monday also saw the party’s Executive Committee hold a session. As MP Antonio Milososki said, the first conclusion is the support for the unity of the Parliamentary Group of the VMRO-DPMNE-led Coalition that is against the constitutional changes. “The second topic we discussed is an appeal to the Parliament Speaker not to abuse the Rules of Procedure. The third conclusion is that early elections are needed this year for a way out of this situation,” he stressed.
