State Secretary at Information Society Ministry suspected of Bribery

Jahi Jahija, State Secretary at the Ministry of Information Society and Administration, and a former department head at the institution are suspected of taking a bribe during the procedure to select a company to implement an IPA-funded project. From June 2014 to 2015, on three occasions, an Italian company covered the cost of travels abroad  of the two suspects, which amounted to 7,000 euros, in exchange for access to confidential tender information. That, according to the press-release, enabled the company to win the tender and implement the project, about which a contract worth 1,096,900 euros was signed. According to the allegations in the investigation, the prime suspect twice received 37,930 euros, while the former department had was paid 2,500 euros. A 30-day detention measure has been issued against Jahija. Commenting on the case against Jahija, who is a member of DUI, Alliance for Albanians leader Ziadin Sela says that the highest members of Ali Ahmeti’s party, too, should be held responsible.
