The Official Gazette has published the temporary measure adopted by the Constitutional Court on 5 July. That means that birth certificates including an ethnicity column will not be issued starting from Tuesday.
The head of the Office for Management of Registers of Births, Marriages, and Deaths says he will comply with the Court’s decision. Everyone who files an application will get new documents without the column. A big part of citizens received on Tuesday certificates, but despite the published decision, part of them said their certificates had an ethnicity column.
The Justice Ministry hasn’t said whether Minister Krenar Lloga will submit new guidelines, as he announced immediately after the Court’s decision.
