UMD and Zuroff Critical of Reactions to Rashela Mizrahi

The United Macedonian Diaspora has condemned the reactions on social media to the new Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Rashela Mizrahi. “Anti-Semitic attacks and rhetoric have no place in any society, especially in places like #Macedonia. We condemn the comments made via social media against the first-ever #Macedonian #Jewish cabinet minister over the weekend, Rashela Mizrahi. We are a #JewishandProud Ally,” the organisation tweeted on Monday. The same day, Efraim Zuroff, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre’s Eastern Europe director, congratulated Mizrahi, calling her nomination “an encouraging milestone” for her community. But the “anti-Semitic reactions have been revealing and outrageous,” he told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. The Jewish Community in Macedonia and the Holocaust Fund of the Jews from Macedonia, too, reacted. As they said in a press-release on Wednesday, they condemn the hate speech and anti-Semitic comments on social media over the past days.
