US: Decision for Decoupling of Skopje and Tirana up to EU and its Members

Spokesperson of the United State Department of State, Ned Price, said that it is up to the EU to decide whether to approve or not the decoupling of North Macedonia and Albania in the EU integration processes. “We have good bilateral relations with the EU itself and with its member-states. We think that it is best to address the EU when it comes to this issue, because it can only be decided by EU and its members,” Price said. In meantime, German Ambassador in Tirana Peter Zingraf stated that the two countries should not be decoupled in this process. “Back in 2020 North Macedonia was forced to wait for Albania to catch up with certain processes and reforms in order to get the approval for start of the accession talks by al EU members, so I think that now Albania should demonstrate solidarity and wait for North Macedonia to resolve the dispute with Bulgaria,” Zingraf said.
