US Ambassador Kate Marie Byrnes addressed greetings to the Government and the citizens of Macedonia on occasion the Day of the Republic – Ilinden. Byrnes published on her Twitter profile a photograph of her visit to the ASNOM Memorial Centre in Pelince, where she laid a wreath of flowers at the monument. Besides this, former US Vice-president Jo Biden also extended greetings on occasion of the Ilinden holiday. “Today, Jill and I send our best wishes to the Macedonian-American community as it celebrates the 1903 Ilinden Uprising and the 1944 anti-fascist declaration. As a friend of Macedonian-Americans, I celebrate with you the success of the Macedonian-American community. As President I look forward to working with your community to achieve a more peaceful, prosperous, Euro-Atlantic future for the entire region,” Biden writes in his greetings.
US Ambassador to Macedonia Kate Marie Byrnes said in an interview for daily newspaper Koha that the new government in Macedonia needs to be established as soon as possible. “We expect that the political parties will stick to all deadlines in order to establish a new government, so that it can deal with the new challenges the country is facing. When it comes to the initiative for a PM of specific ethnic background, I think that your parliamentary system is created in such a manner that specific qualifications of the candidates for the position of a PM are decisive for the MPs to elect them, no matter their ethnicity. The new government must establish priorities, in order to gain benefits when it comes to the Euro-Atlantic integration, dealing with corruption and establishing of rule of law,” Byrnes said.
