“We are looking forward to the EU-Western Balkans Summit next week in Slovenia. The Western Balkans is a key priority for the European Commission, the future of the region is in the EU. We discussed how to move the enlargement process forward by opening membership negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania,” EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, who visited Skopje Wednesday, announced on Twitter after meeting with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev. “I am happy to visit Skopje again for comprehensive talks with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev. We agreed to quickly start implementing the first major projects of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans, in order to boost economic development in North Macedonia and the EU region,” Varhelyi adds. At the same time, Prime Minister Zaev announced on Twitter that he had met with Commissioner Varhelyi, with whom, as he wrote, they had openly discussed several topics such as the economic investment plan, which is a really strong positive impulse, to specific projects that will be published by the end of the year.
