VMRO-DPMNE and Levica Call for Introduction of One Constituency

“SDSM is hiding behind DUI when it comes to changing the election model with one constituency,” said at Parliament Dajanco Eftimov, MP from VMRO-DPMNE, while Levica believes that SDSM is blocking the amendments to the Electoral Code, although in 2016 it promised single election unit. MP Snezana Kaleska-Vanceva from SDSM emphasizes that the party still believes that one constituency is a better model for the country as a society and for this level of development of parliamentary democracy, but also for the representation, especially for smaller political parties. According to Eftimov, DUI has a clear goal not to start this process at all, which would block the procedure in the Parliament. “SDSM, knowing that, calls for consensus from all parties, although it knows that it is impossible,” said Eftimov. The VMRO-DPMNE parliamentary group, he stressed, gave unconditional support for starting a debate in the Parliament and therefore called on SDSM to clearly say whether it will fulfil the promise given to the citizens or ‘will continue to hide behind DUI’, which clearly said that ‘they will not allow North Macedonia to be one constituency’.
