There are 14 European Court of Human Rights judgements concerning Macedonians in Bulgaria, but Bulgaria hasn’t implemented any, VMRO-DPMNE Vice President and MP Nikoloski said during the regular session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. According to him, that represents strong undermining of the Court’s credibility, which is why the Council of Europe must act. “In the conditions of war in Ukraine, when human rights are not respected, bad examples are not needed in Europe,” he stressed. As Nikoloski added, Macedonians in Bulgaria have for decades fought for fundamental human rights. The VMRO-DPMNE MP also said Bulgaria vetoed Skopje’s EU path while not respecting the Strasbourg Court’s verdicts. That in his view, is the hypocritical policy that should end. He called for a start of membership negotiations for North Macedonia and urged Bulgaria to enable fundamental human and language rights of Macedonians in the country.
