Zaev: Time for EU to Fulfil Promises Towards Country

We do not want to wait any longer for start of the accession talks with EU, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said at a press conference after a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in Brussels. “Since March 2020 we have a confirmation that our country has meet all necessary conditions to start the accession talks with EU, and now it is time for the EU to do its part. We have no intention to negotiate over our identity, which is undisputable, unique and authentic. We can proceed the discussions about our European future once the question about our identity is removed from the table,” Zaev said. EU High Representative Borrell said that the foreign ministers of EU member-states already reaffirmed the European perspective of the Western Balkans and that there are no discussions for decoupling of Skopje and Tirana in the process. Also on Tuesday, PM Zaev met in Brussels the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission (EC) Frans Timmermans, as well as MEPs Ilhan Kyuchyuk and Dacian Ciolos.
