If Macedonia doesn’t get a date to start membership negotiations with the EU by this summer, PM Zoran Zaev will return the mandate. On Thursday, he also announced that among the options are early parliamentary elections and assuming responsibility for an unsuccessful process, too. The PM remains optimistic that EU members will at the Summit in July reward the reforms and closed issues with neighbours as successful steps for the long-awaited date. To that end, he announced a meeting also with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The uncertainty regarding the date issue has put the announced reshuffle, too, on hold. Even though Zaev has a plan for new directors and ministers, he considers that the decision from the Council should come first.
