The EU Ambassador to Macedonia Samuel Zbogar, commenting on the events related to the UNESCO status of Ohrid, said that now is the right time for the institutions to implement the recommendations issued by UNESCO. “UNESCO issued these recommendations on 4 July, giving a deadline till 1 February 2020 for their implementation. It’s been two weeks since they were issued, and nothing has been done for their implementation so far. All institutions should invest efforts in implementation of these recommendations, because now is the right time for it, now is the right time to save the cultural heritage status of the City of Ohrid. We need new fresh energy to deal with this, and actions should start as soon as possible,” Zbogar said. UNESCO recommended to the City of Ohrid to remove around 400 illegally constructed objects along the coastline of Ohrid Lake.
