213 convicts from the Idrizovo prison’s semi-open unit haven’t eaten today, the institution’s deputy head, Femi Jonuzi, told Telma today, the TV station reported at around 3:40 pm on Tuesday.
Several hours later, however, it was confirmed the strike had ended. The hunger strike started at the unit where there was a clash between police and prisoners. 10 officers were injured, while convicts, too, complained of serious injuries and of failure to receive medical assistance.
That was the reason for the hunger strike. Tuesday also saw the Administration for Execution of Sanctions carry out inspection supervision in the prison. The report will be prepared after conversations with both prisoners and prison police officers.
