Islam Abazi, whose election two years ago as Chief of the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organised Crime and Corruption sparked a lot of reactions, has presented before the Council of Public Prosecutors the report on his institution’s work in 2023.
As he said during the presentation, which took place on Wednesday, among the positives is that the process for interception of telephone communication for needs related to cases, in cooperation with the Operational-Technical Agency, is now carried out on the Office’s premises.
In 2023, the number of criminal charges fell when compared to 2022, but more people were charged. Asked how many cases initiated by the now-defunct Special Prosecutor’s Office his Office was working on, Abazi didn’t give a number.
