On Wednesday, the Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors presented certificates to 97 candidates. The institution’s Director, Irina Trajkoska Strezoski, said the new generation, comprising 50 candidates for judges and 47 for prosecutors, was the largest one ever.
Asked whether youth were interested in becoming a judge or public prosecutor considering the low confidence in the judiciary, Trajkoska Strezoski said there was interest because there were candidates that filed applications.
Judicial Council President Aleksandar Kambovski, who attended the event too, was asked about the issue of changes to the law concerning his institution. He stated that didn’t fall under its domain.
“The only law regulating that matter is the Judicial Council Law. We’re part of the working group to change that Law. We had our first meeting today. I am not able to comment because I haven’t seen the proposals presented on how that will be regulated”, Kambovski stressed.
Asked about the government’s stand on a law enabling Parliament to dismiss judges in the future, he again said it was about impact that was not good because the country had experience with similar practices in the previous 30 years.
“Every change of that government would see changes to those bodies, which, ultimately, means interference by other powers in the judicial one”, he noted.
