During his visit to Skopje, Hungarian EU Affairs Minister Janos Boka said on Thursday that accession should be an objective and merit based process.
“What I would like to say on this is that the accession process should be an objective and merit-based process. The Republic of North Macedonia has been a candidate country since 2005 and I believe that the proper place for North Macedonia should be already within the European Union. I hope that the pending bilateral issues will be resolved as soon as possible and if there is anything Hungary can do to facilitate this process, we are, of course, at the disposal of the parties”, he pointed out.
Minister Boka added that his country’s government remained committed to building a stable partnership and improving North Macedonia’s integration path. North Macedonia’s Deputy Minister of European Affairs, Viktorija Trajkov, said Minister Boka had assured her Budapest’s help and advice for Skopje would continue.
On Thursday, the Minister also delivered an address at a debate in Skopje headlined “How to Make Europe Great Again?”. On Friday (11 April), he will also meet European Affairs Minister Orhan Murtezani.
