Agency for National Security Actively Following Jashari’s Activities

One of the four citizens of North Macedonia who’ve stayed in Syria and Iraq as members of radical militant structures, Abdul Jashari, (aka Abu Qatada al-Albani), who holds office in the new Syrian government, is wanted in North Macedonia for participation in foreign military.

The Agency for National Security has told Telma it is following the situation closely.

“We’re actively following the situation in Syria and, certainly, the person’s activities as well, in the frames of the Agency’s scope of competences”, the Bojan Hristovski-headed Agency said on Monday.

In North Macedonia, there were multiple investigations in which Abu Qatada al-Albani’s name came up. He was even covered in the investigative activities into the Monster case, which concerns the 2012 Smiljkovci killings.

However, police and defence lawyers never found him in Aerodrom (where he lived according to his address) and Cair (his place of birth). After the Smiljkovci killings, Jashari disappeared from North Macedonia.

Later on, it was determined he’d joined radical structures in Syria, where after the fall of Bashar al-Assad, he was given the position within the Syrian government.
