Ali Ahmeti’s Nephew, Drin, among Those Charged in Mine Concession Case

The Interior Ministry has filed a criminal charge against DUI leader Ali Ahmeti’s nephew, Drin Ahmeti, who is suspected of concession abuse regarding a mine near Kicevo.

The charge also covers the manager of the company from 2008 to 2017. Several Economy Ministry employees are suspected of unscrupulous operation because they had the duty of supervising the concession.

From 2016 to 2023, those charged broke the Law on Mineral Law Materials and concession contract for exploitation of a site in Zajas Municipality, signed between the legal entity and Government, represented by the then-Economy Minister, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

As the institution also explained, though they had the duty to pay a precisely set annual compensation to use the area granted in the exploration concession process, as well as compensation for exploited quantities of mineral raw materials, they paid 1.6 million denars less, thus causing financial damage to the budget.
