Ambassador Radukov: Delcev Anniversary Being Marked in Conditions That Are ‘Little Strange’

Diplomats of the Bulgarian Embassy, the Bulgaria’s Consulate General in Bitola, the Skopje-based Bulgarian Cultural-Information Centre, and representatives of the Bulgarian community in North Macedonia marked the 153rd anniversary of Goce Delcev’s birth by laying flowers at his grave in the capital.

“We’re gathered here to mark a particularly significant date in the history of Bulgaria and North Macedonia. In conditions that are a little strange, divided and with tension, we’re paying tribute to the man whose name, Georgi Nikolov Delcev, is not known by everybody, that is, they use the nickname ‘Goce’.

In this situation, it’s worth reminding ourselves about Goce Delcev’s words in his letter to Nikola Malesevski dated 1899 that these divisions and rifts should scare us”, Bulgarian Ambassador Zhelyazko Radukov said.

According to him, in the letter, Delcev also wrote, “It’s sad, but what can we do because all of us are Bulgarians and suffer from the same disease. In 20-30 years, our grandchildren will laugh at this generation in that the things that should have united us actually split us. I believe they will live in a world of greater trust and more understanding”.
