Angelov: We Intervene at Drisla from Air with Special Foam

Director of the Protection and Rescue Directorate (DZS) Stojance Angelov informed at a press conference that the Drisla landfill still smokes after the great fire that erupted there two days ago.

“The area which is still burning is surrounded by a great surface of waste waters, around 1.5 metres wide, making access to the burning place complicated. We also believe that the place where it burns is also located above great amounts of waste waters mixed with other materials, including toxins from the landfill itself.

This is why we deployed one of the air tractors to pour a special kind of foam which is used when dealing with fires of this type. I believe that by Friday morning, the smoking will be significantly reduced, or may even stop completely”, Angelov said, adding that samples from the waste waters at Drsila will also be taken by state institutions for further analysis.
