Around 50 Covered in Operation over Health Insurance Fund Case

Around 50 persons have been covered in the frames of the operation of the Interior Ministry and Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organised Crime and Corruption on suspicion that they used fake diagnoses and enabled applying for, getting, and using financial assistance for custodial care and using disability pensions.

On Wednesday, searches were performed on the premises of the Clinical Centre in Skopje, that is, at the Neurology Clinic, Psychiatry Clinic, and Clinic of Traumatology, Orthopaedic Diseases, Anaesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive Care, and Emergency Centre, as well as the Hospitals in Tetovo and Veles.

Among the 50 persons are doctors, commission members, and manager of a consulting bureau. According to unofficial information, Telma reported, measures are being sought for 26 of the people.

The Office said there was grounded suspicion that multiple crimes had been committed that had caused financial damage to the Health Insurance Fund. The Pension Fund stated that in the frames of the activities, it had been asked for data on a certain number of cases from 2023 and 2024, as well as the names of doctors that had been part of the commission for issuing disability pensions.

The operation covers the doctors who were part of the commission. Three doctors at that time had regular employment, while four were hired on the basis of a temporary service contract, the Pension Fund said, adding that they had been deciding on disability pension applications.
