The Association of Judges will file a new initiative before the Constitutional Court concerning salaries of judges.
Its stand is that the Court has made a populist decision and launched no proceedings even though the legal changes provide for retroactive action that, in its view, endangers the legal order.
The Association’s reaction concerns the Court’s decision in May not to launch proceedings for the reduction of coefficients for calculation of salaries of judges and Judicial Council members by 13%. According to the Association, the Court engages in populism and makes unconditional decisions instead of protecting constitutionality of laws.
The Court said it supported thinking and public debate, welcoming also all reactions that were, as it stated, legally founded.
However, it added that it found unacceptable allegations that the judiciary’s independence was being endangered.
