Berlin Process Leaders’ Summit Held in Tirana

Strengthening the economic performances for countries from the region, encouragement for continuing reforms, and a clear call to overcome disputes through dialogue were the messages from Monday’s Berlin Process Leaders’ Summit in Tirana.

“This is a very special Summit. We have today the 10 th Berlin process, but for the very first time in the Western Balkans. And I think it sends a powerful message how committed we are to enlargement. One major topic will be the economy of the Western Balkans,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated before the start.

At the opening of the Summit, she talked about the principle of the Growth Plan in more detail. The Kosovo- Serbia issue was an inevitable topic.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the easing of the situation was needed. The German Chancellor, Deutsche Welle reported, highlighted North Macedonia as a country that must be rewarded for its efforts to get closer to the EU.

After the event, PM Dimitar Kovacevski said that those that would make decisions and implement reforms would be the first to join the EU. At a press- conference, the PM also talked about the importance of the two working sessions in the frames of the Summit, as well as the unambiguous support of EU leaders for integration of the Western Balkans.
