Bulgaria’s Radev Comments on North Macedonia Elections Aftermath

On Thursday, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, commenting on the elections in North Macedonia, didn’t congratulate Gordana Siljanovska Davkova and VMRO-DPMNE.

However, he added that it would very soon become clear whether the new President and VMRO-DPMNE would work for the European perspective or take another path.

As Radev pointed out, he has always supported North Macedonia’s EU integration, but only through respect for good-neighbourliness and primarily by meeting the Copenhagen criteria, which would mean a change of the Constitution, and, as he stressed, respecting the rights of ethnic Bulgarians in the country, abandoning the “hate speech” that was “raging” in the elections campaign, a revision of textbooks, and respecting and protecting the Bulgarian cultural and historical legacy in the western neighbour.
