Campaign “16 Days Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” Kicks off

The Delegation of the EU in North Macedonia, the OSCE Mission and the Office of the United Nations (UN) marked the start of the campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender- based Violence”.

The central event of the campaign took place at the National Theatre in Skopje, with the performance of the play “Thinks We Don’t talk About”. The main theme of the campaign this year is “Unite! Make Efforts to Prevent Violence over Women and Girls”.

Deputy Head of the EU Mission Ben Nupnau said that the campaign is created in such way to encourage the victims to report the cases of violence to the authorities. Selma Mehovic from the Office of the Chief of the OSCE Mission in Skopje said that OSCE is constantly providing assistance in processes that create laws and regulations for better protection of the victims of violence.

“We set two main goals: first to create a critical society that would stimulate the creation of policies with zero tolerance towards all forms of violence, and then raising awareness about the damage that is caused by violence over women and girls which is inflicted over the entire society,” Mehovic said.

UN Coordinator Rosanna Dudziak said that it is not enough to have laws on paper only, and that they should be properly implemented.
