Changes to Extend Validity of Passports not Passed in Parliament

At the session of Parliament on Wednesday, the draft-changes filed by VMRO-DPMNE aiming to extend the validity of passports containing the previous constitutional name were not passed.

54 MPs voted against, while 46 were in favour. SDSM had announced previously too it would not support the changes because that would be in contradiction with the Constitution, according to which international accords, such as the Prespa Agreement, cannot be changed.

DUI parliamentarians supported SDSM’s stand, whereas the ethnic Albanian opposition had previously announced support for the changes submitted by VMRO-DPMNE.
