The Parliament adopted with 69 votes in favour and 17 against the necessity for passing of the Draft-changes to the Law on Local Self-Government.
The law-changes were proposed by the ruling majority headed by VMRO-DPMNE, and their aim is to avoid the organisation of snap local elections in three municipalities, Aerodrom, Gostivar and Saraj, after their mayors assumed offices in the institutions of the state.
The law-changes are now forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee on Local Self-Government for further processing. A 2/3 and a Badinter majority are needed for the law-changes to be adopted.
From the opposition, SDSM already said they will not support the law-changes, while DUI unofficially will support them.
