FM Bujar Osmani presented at a press conference the Draft-changes to the Law on Restriction Measures, which, if adopted, would incorporate the black lists of the US and the UK in the legislature of North Macedonia.
According to the text of the law-changes, once the US, the UK or the EU designate a state or elected official from North Macedonia and introduce sanctions against them, an institution of the state can ask the government to propose to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) to initiate criminal procedures against the designated person in question.
“Previously, it was up to PPO to initiate procedures by themselves, but with the law changes, PPO will have to act if the government requests it. Any state officials that shall be designated by the US, the UK or the EU shall be prosecuted,” Osmani explained.
The law-changes are proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Interior Ministry, the Agency for National Security, PPO, the Finance Police Department and the Intelligence Agency, and are initiated by the Office of Deputy PM in charge of Good Governance Policies Slavica Grkovska.
