Citizen of Germany Given Two-year Suspended Sentence

A citizen of Germany has been given a two-year suspended sentence for hoisting and waving a Greater Albania flag and a sign reading “Autochthonous” before the Shkendija-Qarabag football match in Skopje.

The person, shortly before the match, was spotted by police, which detained him. Afterwards, under an urgent procedure, the Prosecutor’s Office processed the criminal charge on the basis of Article 319 of the Criminal Code (causing hatred, discord or intolerance on national, racial, religious or any other discriminatory ground).

The two-year suspended sentence will not be effective if the person doesn’t commit a new crime in the next five years. Considering it’s about a foreign citizen, the Criminal Court also decided to expel the person and prohibit him from entering North Macedonia in the next five years.
