Commissioner Varhelyi Indirectly Points to Obligation for Constitutional Changes

At the event headlined “New Momentum for Enlargement and the EU’s Neighbourhood”, Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, despite not mentioning directly the constitutional changes, reiterated that the process was key on the EU path.

“North Macedonia is facing elections. So, let’s hope that the government emerging after the elections will also speed up the work, the work that has been somewhat neglected in the last year, I would say or two, and that we will see delivery on their side so that we can move to the next phase, which is starting the accession negotiations also effectively,” he stated.

Regarding Albania, Varhelyi praised the country and asked for the Council to start negotiations with it urgently, which would basically mean decoupling of Skopje and Tirana.
