Constitutional Court to Hold Languages Law Preparatory Session 20 March

Despite DUI’s reactions, the Constitutional Court will hold the preparatory session over the Law on Languages on 20 March.

On an episode of Kanal 5 CEO Ivan Mircevski’s podcast, the institution’s President, Darko Kostadinovski, said the session would be broadcast live in order to deny manipulations that ethnic decisions were made.

15 experts will be present, including one of the Venice Commission’s Vice-Presidents, who will deliberate on the asked friendly advice, and a minority rights expert from the European Court of Human Rights. Kostadinovski expects the final decision to be made in May or not later than June.

“There, you will hear only constitutional, international public law, human rights, international standards arguments”, he noted.

Previously, DUI leader Ali Ahmeti had said during a visit to Lipkovo that there couldn’t be “negotiations” on the matter.

“If the Law on Languages is touched, there is no local elections and ballot boxes cannot be set up”, he noted.
