Criminal Charge Filed against Ex-Bitola Plant Head Matevski and Others

The Financial Police Administration has filed a criminal charge against Pece Matevski, former head of the Bitola thermal power plant. He is suspected of abuse of official position with regards to the tender for excavation of investment rubble in the frames of Brod-Gneotino.

According to the charge, he rejected the lowest bid, filed by Skopje-based Granit, and went with the more expensive one, filed by RUD-KOP, signing a contract worth 13.8 million euros.

Two members of the expert commission that decided to reject Granit’s bid, as well as the head and two members of the public procurement commission, who, according to the charge, limited competition, have been named suspects as well.

Furthermore, three Public Procurement Bureau employees are suspected of not having ordered the plant to carry out a re-evaluation of the bids and allowing the deal with RUD-KOP to be signed.

The deal enabled RUD-KOP to obtain unlawful property benefit, which caused damage to the budget of around three million euros.
