Criticism Levelled by Commissioner Reynders at 2nd Session of Forum

The second session of the EU-Western Balkans Ministerial Forum on Justice and Home Affairs was held on Friday.

Justice Minister Krenar Lloga highlighted the importance of effectively processing corruption and organised crime cases, while the Government’s stand is it is doing everything to make progress in that area, especially through recommendations coming from the OSCE’s monitoring.

However, EU Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders stated that the Commission was concerned over the current situation in North Macedonia, especially with regards to expiration of the statute of limitations in cases concerning high-profile corruption.

According to Spain’s Justice Minister, Pilar Llop Cuenca, what’s most important is for judges to be impartial and for the legal system to be swift and efficient. She added that trials, too, had to be swift.
