Parties in the ethnic Albanian bloc are actively preparing for the parliamentary elections. The deadline for filing draft-lists of MP candidates to the State Election Commission (SEC) expires on 2 April.
DUI is trying to form a so-called counter-coalition front to oppose the ethnic Albanian opposition, VLEN. Ali Ahmeti’s party will supposedly be joined by Menduh Thaci’s DPA, Ziadin Sela’s wing from Alliance for Albanians, the party of Arjanit Hoxha, who would be part of the list in Electoral District 6, as well as Skender Rexhepi Zejd.
If speculations are to be believed, in Electoral District 1, VLEN’s list carrier would be Democratic Movement leader Izet Mexhiti, where he will potentially face DUI’s Blerim Bexheti. However, DUI may cause a surprise by making caretaker PM Talat Xhaferi the list carrier in that District.
Regarding Electoral District 2, the race for votes will be run by Alternative leader Afrim Gashi and DUI Parliamentary Group Coordinator Arber Ademi. In Electoral District 5, Arben Taravari of Alliance for Albanians will need to decide who the list carrier will be, whereas DUI is ready to allow Sela to head its list.
When it comes to Electoral District 6, the battle will be between BESA leader and Tetovo Mayor Bilall Kasami and DUI leader Ali Ahmeti.
